GRAPHIC AND DIGITAL DESIGN

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Many Americans struggle with chronic illness throughout their lifetime.  It can be especially challenging for a teenager or young adult to maintain normalcy while dealing with the demands of everyday life and their ailing health. Chronic illness is very disruptive to a student’s life and it can negatively affect their schoolwork, social relationships and future goals. Jessica Octavio was a third-year microbiology student that has developed a startup called Wubbie. Wubbie helps keep students connected with their support system. Students are able to streamline communication platforms and set visibility for groups. Other app features make it easy for them to schedule visits with friends and family and crowdsource help when needed. With the help of Wubbie, students are able to gain the social support they need to thrive.

As one of the designers the goal of this project was to develop a brand geared towards teenagers and young adults. With the use of color and icons, I created brand solutions that was friendly and inviting. In addition to a logo, we also created elements that will showcase of the brand with mock-ups ranging from simple on boarding with main screens for the main application, stationary system, and a website. Designers explored different logos, color pallets, patterns and typefaces.

Inspirations/Explorations

To begin the design process, each designer did extensive research to better understand how other successful mobile application companies were showcasing their brand. This visual field highlights several companies that are similar to Wubbie. These companies provide mobile applications that help people navigate through different life challenges such as illness. The logos, use of color for an app page design, were compared and analyzed to determine what design components were working for the brand and what could be improved. Each designer wanted to create a brand that would be competitive in the marketplace while maintaining its core values of kindness, resilience and community.

Ephemera

Some of the ephemera we had to create in order for us to present to the client were a mock website which included some examples of our logo along with the use of different icons and colors. We had to basic intro applications slides along with a full stationary set. We also had to create a website landing page that had functionality on a iPad and iPhone. I took it upon myself to create extra mockups badges for a medical conference
